Cape San Blas is known for fishing. The waters of St. Joseph Bay, Apalachicola Bay, Indian Pass and the Gulf of Mexico have the best fishing. Spanish Mackerel, Snook, Redfish, Trout, Flounder, and Triple Tail feed the shallow waters of the area. Many areas are hard to access and require knowledge of the waters. Your fishing guide will supply this knowledge, license, equipment and boat to help you reel in the big catch of the day. Flats fishing and Bay fishing are In-shore fishing, that is, fishing within sight of the shoreline. Flats fishing is shallow water (skinny water) fishing from a flats skiff. Flats fishing is with fly rods or a spinning rod. Bay fishing is using light tackle. Both bay and flats fishing target the same species of fish, just use different equipment.
Tarpon season is exciting and generally begins mid-June. Even the novice angler has an excellent chance of reeling in the leaping fighting silver giant. The guides call it “Tarpon Mania” and find the experience to be one of a lifetime. This is sport fishing at its best. Book early as the fishing has been wonderful and the captains are booking up.
Bottom fishing is one the easiest ways to fish, but again the knowledge of Gulf waters is beneficial. Our Charter captains have the tackle and tactics to land Grouper, Amberjack, Snapper, Triggerfish, Sea bass, and Wahoo. Click on Fishing Guides and Charters directory to find a Captain for Cape San Blas, Apalachicola, St. George Island, Port St. Joe, Indian Pass and Mexico Beach.
Cape San Blas has a party boat called Fishing Xpress and is an inexpensive way to fish the whole family for a day on the water. Captain Bill and crew will provide a great experience aboard the 60 ft 49 passenger boat. Rods, License, and bait included snacks and drinks are sold on board. Pack your sandwich and join the fun. You will find information on Fishing Express under Fishing Guides and Charters directory.
Pack a cooler with your favorite beverage and Sunset Cruise with Seahorse Water Safaris along the shore of St. Joseph Bay while learning some the history of this charming old town. Fun for all ages. Afterwards catch dinner and drinks at Dockside Cafe.
